Spike’s Tactical Midlength 5.45×39
I just received this 5.45 upper tonight. I'll be at the range tomorrow. Here are some photos, for now...
Standard midlength fare from a distance...this will make an excellent training rifle companion to a 5.56 or 6.8 midlength.
QC checklist tag, nitrided barrel and A2 muzzle device
Nitrided FSB and stainless steel roll pin
Receiver is laser marked 5.45x39
Nickel boron 5.45 BCG
Nickel boron barrel extension, M4 ramps
Nitrided barrel and gas tube - production barrels will be marked with caliber and other information
Another shot of the nickel boron BCG
If there has been a more corrosion resistant AR-15 upper manufactured, in any caliber, I'd like to know how the manufacturer did it...

Have you been able to fire it yet? I have yet to shoot a 5.45 mm rifle and I’m wondering how the recoil compares.. I would assume less, but enough to enable proper training for a 5.56?

If Obama loses the next election (OH PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN), does that mean that 5.56 prices should start dropping? Granted, there are many factors involved with the price of ammunition, but things went nuts with him taking office.

You made the statement, “If there has been a more corrosion resistant AR-15 upper manufactured, in any caliber, I’d like to know how the manufacturer did it…”
The answer is yes, someone does make a more corrosion resistant AR-15. It is made by Next Generation Arms and utilizes aerospace ceramic coating technology to achieve the superior corrosion resistance. Take a look at http://www.nextgenerationarms.com.

Did you have to use an extra power spring on this model like you had to with the M&P 15R?

No, I used standard carbine and rifle springs for the test. I also tested it with other springs and it functioned well.
